The Ice Hockey Federation of Russia named Yevgeni Bobariko as new head coach of the Russian U18 national team.

Bobariko, who succeeds Alexander Ulyankin, signed a one-year contract.

Earlier Alexei Chistyakov was announced as new head coach of the women’s senior national team.

Bobariko, 42, represented Russia as a junior at the 1992 U18 European Championship and the 1994 World Junior Championship. He spent most of his professional career as a centre for his hometown club Torpedo Nizhni Novgorod.

During the last three years he worked as an assistant coach for HK Sarov in the second-tier men’s league VHL. He had earlier experience as an assistant coach of the women’s senior national team and as head coach of SKIF Nizhni Novgorod, one of the top women’s hockey clubs in Russia.

Bobariko will be joined in the coaching staff by Vladislav Prodan and Alexander Syrtsov.
